Family Scholar House Opens New Riverport Location


Chris Carmicle is an international executive who serves on the board of directors of Republic Bank (NASDAQ: RBCAA) and the Zoeller Company (OTC: ZOLR). In addition, Chris Carmicle is a director of Polywood, a leading manufacturer of outdoor furniture in northern Indiana. Beyond his professional responsibilities, Mr. Carmicle supports Family Scholar House, a Louisville-based organization that fosters the educational efforts of single parents and people aging out of the foster system.

In an effort to end the cycle of poverty that affects the people in these groups, Family Scholar House provides qualifying individuals with financial assistance and access to services that will help them succeed. Clients of Family Scholar House receive the help they need to overcome significant boundaries to pursuing a college education, including financial instability, lack of housing, and insufficient child care. With the help of academic advisors and others, clients are better equipped to succeed and begin a new life free from the chains of poverty. In addition to its non-residential programs, Family Scholar House also provides housing assistance at one its four Louisville facilities.

In August of last year, construction began at the Riverport Family Scholar House site. The $71-million dollar facility will include units for seniors and families, a community building, and retail space. Individuals receiving aid from Family Scholar House will occupy 64 of the available units. The project is expected to be complete by the spring of 2019.
